what is the european stunt school?

The European Stunt School, located in Copenhagen, Denmark - was established by members of the highly acclaimed STUNT360 industry professionals, as a place to communicate new skills within the industry, or just to polish and keep your current stunt skills up to date.

Over the past years, beginners, amateurs and professionals have joined the different workshops we offer. The students are from very different backgrounds. Not only stunt performers and actors, but also athletes, military personal, extreme-sports enthusiasts and the occasional "just want to try something new". Currently we run a 6-day workshop (cost: 700€) and a 3-day workshop (cost: 300€) where we have included some of the most common stunts, but also rare oppotunities such as high falls (30ft.), partial burns and our popular SWAT Tactial Training by the Danish Special Forces.

Please continue reading, for a detailed description of what you can experience at the European Stunt School.

Yes! You will receive a certificate from the ESS and from EAGLE SHARK (SWAT) as a proof of completion.

Can I use it to get jobs afterwards?

Depends... It's not a "stamp of approval", but it shows what you have been trained in. It's up to you to keep your skills up-to-date, and it requires regular training to keep everything in shape.

Have any of your students succeeded in the industry?

Yes! Returning home, several of our students has contacted stunt teams or coordinators in their local area, and that have led to everything from minor roles to big performances. We encurages everyone to do the same!

Do I have to bring my own protective gear?

Yes, you should bring the most common protective gear. Your knees and elbows will get some bruises, but it's also a good idea to bring back- and teethprotectors. We have several for you to borrow.

what can you learn?

Here is a brief description - if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask us.

armed- and unarmed stage fight!

STAGE FIGHT (wich is literally a "staged fight") is a huge part of the stunt industry. Stunt "on stage" demands a lot from stunt performers and actors - the reaction is imminent and often you work with scrappy budgets and small workspaces. Most of the time, weapons are involved and it takes practice and experience before you can create believable and amazing sequences. Kicks and punches will be flying, but you will have to concentrate - for your own, your partners and the spectators SAFETY. What can you do, to make the fight look real, and how do you close those gaps between your fist and your partners face - what about sound effects? You will learn the techniques to creating a sequence with action, variety and impressive moves.

ARMED COMBAT - FOUND WEAPONS such as clubs, knives, rapiers and swords. Your imagination is challenged in found weapons, which can be everything from an alectric toothbrush or chairs to a rolled-up magazine or a pair of boxers(!?). We are focusing on the classic rapier and broadsword work, going through everything you need to learn, from strikes, parries and steps. Our instructors are among the best in Scandinavia, and are very much qualified to teach you this.

advanced martial art!

MANY STUNT PERFORMERS has a great deal of experience in some sort of martial arts. We are moving in area of Krav Maga, Hawrang Do and Kali. This calls for more Eastern fighting and not so much Western bar-brawll, not said that you can't combine the two - it's all a question of skills and imagination. It takes longer than usual to be able to master these skills, but we will go over them many times, so you will be able to create a fluid motion and a highly advanced fight scene. Our instructors are highly experienced and holds the black belt in various forms of martial art.

acrobatics!

BASIC ACROBATIC MOVES will get you far, and is usually incorporated into almost every stunt. Need to spice up a fight, then maybe put a back-flip in there among all the kicks and punches. We will practice rolls, falls and somersaults such as the "CRAZY DIVE" and "LAZY BACK". you will get familiar with the mini-tramp,and learn how to use it best.

parkour!

WITH THE LATEST wave of parkour and tricking hitting the cinema, we have some of the best parkour performers in Scandinavia to show you just how you can get from A to B in the most impressive way. Again, using your imagination and creativiy, you be able to perform some of the most impressive fight sequences ever seen.

swat tactical training!

THIS KNOWLEDGE IS very important if you need to double or act as a SWAT team member - or move around while looking like you know what you're doing. You'll learn how to do it like a PRO: how to hold your weapon, move around with it, staking up by a door, clear a room, move up a stairway and keep your team SAFE! You'll be instructed by PROFFESIONAL DANISH SPECIAL FORCES ARMY MEMBERS.

firearms handling!

THE MATRIX SERIES (Wachowski Brothers), SAVING PRIVATE RYAN (Steven Spielberg), DESPERADO (Robert Rodriguez) AND HARD BOILED (John Woo) are films that all contain amazing gun-fights. The stunt performers or actors make it look easy, but it takes a long time to learn to control the firearm in that way. We will take you through the process of creating gun-fights. Learn how to handle blank-firing handguns safely on film and theatre. We will cover how guns function, how to act professionally on a film set - both behind and in front of the camera, How to move and perform with a gun in hand, and how to fire them in action-related sequences. Naturally, We will use only blank-firing revolvers and pistols. Although firing blanks, the still pack a puncs and should be treated as a real FIREARM! A gun firing blanks - can easily cause damage to your eyes even within 6ft., and permantly damage your hearing! That's why it's important to receive instructions and aqquire knowledge about firearms, before the director yells "ACTION". Safety first!

wire work!

WIRE PULLS AND FLIPS are some of the most used stunts in the industry. It's a great way of really showing just how strong the bad guy is, by seeing him throw people through the air, over great distances! It's all a trick of course, but it can be very challenging to make it look real. You'll find out, just how it feels to get jerked around by something you can't control yourself.

High fall (30ft.)!

WE WILL GO THROUGH the techniques of landing the perfect high fall. being a very common thing in film theatre and shows, you will have to master this stunt, to make it look good and convincing. Many stunt performers are able to do a basic "HEADER" but you don't want to look like a dummy going through the air - therefore it is important that you learn to move and act all the way from the rooftop till you hit the mat. You'll start by doing a simple roll from 1 meter and and by the end of the course, you'll be falling from 10 meters (30ft.). Not only a "HEADER", but also "SUICIDE", "FACE-OFF" and a "BACK-FALL" is on the menu.

Partial burn!

SEMI-BURNS AND FULL-BURNS are fascinating to experinence, and a huge adrenaline rush to create. We will take all the necessary precautions to make sure that your first encounter with a partial burn will work our as planned. There are some simple rules that you should follow, and when you feel comfortable enough to perform your best - we will be there for you. These types of FIRE-STUNTS can be frightening to look at. and of course, once you go up in flames - you really need someone to put you out, when it starts to get a bit to warm. Therefore it's crucial to have a well educated safety personnel, that you feel safe with and trust. The fire is controlled by an accellerant (FIREGEL), that won't allow anything under the gel to burn - but the flames still reaches 400 degrees celcius. so you need something (STUNTGEL) to cool the exposed areas down to approximately 5 degrees celcius, to avoid getting burned. We are definitely talking about a HIGH RISK stunt here.

Pyrotechnics!

AS A STUNT PERFORMER you sometimes get really close to the explosions, therefore you need to get yourself familiar with the circumstances it creates. A FIREBALL EFFECT can reach high temperatures, and if you're too near you'll need to be protected against the heat or shrapnel. We are also looking into another big part of the film industry - and that's special effects and pyrotechnics! We will demonstrate and put you in some of the most common effects, such as FIREBALL EFFECTS and SQUIBS (BULLET HITS ON BODY).
